Monografía 18, 2022, CSIC; Xunta de Galicia, 185 pp.
Abstract: during the twelfth century a phenomenon of progressive monetization took place, that is, an increasing presence of metallic coins in documented transactions. The objectives of this work are, first, to determine the role of coined money in the different economic areas within the Leonese and Castilian kingdoms, establishing the limits and units of use. And second, to determine the moments of special economic significance in the Leonese space that are derived from the data currently available about the physical coins known. Throughout these pages the most significant examples will be specified, contextualizing the physical currency with its reflection in other sources, particularly the written ones.
