Da vila do Castro d’Ouro ao concello de Alfoz: oitocentos anos na Historia

Abstract: the conjunction of certain circumstances, such as the mild weather, the demographic increase, the economic boom or the improvement of communication systems, generated a favorable scenario, receptive to the introduction and flourishing of the urban phenomenon in the Galician Cantabrian area, built on a previous organic substrate in a rural environment in which these new realities are not integrated in a disruptive way, but interacting and feeding back. In this sense, at the height of the thirteenth century, the urban landscape of the Mariña de Lugo is complete, showing a heterogeneous snapshot of coastal and inland conglomerates, which are constituted as instruments of vertebration of large territorial areas, whether the main high estuaries (Ribadeo and Viveiro), which act as an umbilical cord between the terrestrial and maritime environments, as a gateway between the physical and anthropogenic spheres, and the most important river valleys, with Vilamaior de Mondoñedo and Vilanova de Lourenzá in the Masma river basin and the village of Castro d'Ouro in the d'Ouro river basin.
