Abstract: Although the bibliography on medieval monasticism in Galicia is extensive, it does not completely cover a problem as apparently simple as establishing which monasteries of the kingdom existed at a specific date of the chronological arc covered (1075-1540). This work attempts, to a large extent, to address this problem. In this way, and after locating and enumerating the monasteries, the aim is to identify, characterize and classify them individually, showing the changes that may have occurred -if any- in each house. The aim is, therefore, to put an end, as far as possible, to more or less evident errors that concern more than one monastery, crossed out as a Templar house or whose ascription to one or another order was not entirely clear. For this purpose, it is essential to show and explain the changes that took place in Galician monasticism during the period 1075-1540. The impact of the arrival of the Gregorian rules in the kingdom of Galicia, the Benedictine restructuring, the superiority of this rule over the Augustinian, the donations to Cluny, the Cistercian foundations and affiliations... to end with the process that led to the observant reform and to study how it developed until its end, already in the Modern Age.
